Curaçao
Bonaire, with Boats?
It’s probably not fair to compare Curaçao with Bonaire, but the truth is that Curaçao is often overshadowed by its uber-popular neighbor — so far as diving goes.
Like Bonaire, Curaçao has beautiful, golden reefs that are fantastically healthy.
Unlike Bonaire, boat diving is arguably better than the shore diving, and there are more ways to enjoy your surface intervals; Curaçao undoubtedly has the better topside attractions.
Best time to travel: High Season: Dec-Apr, Low Season: May-Nov. Diving: Boat and Shore Diving. Underwater Life: Colorful Reefs with angelfish, wrasses, surgeonfish, sea turtles, eagle rays, eels, barracudas, lionfish, and seahorses; Invertebrates- sea stars, urchins, anemones; and you may even see some dolphins. Level: All. Sea Temps: 77°F – 86°F Air Temps: Average 86°F. Accommodations: Land Based Resorts. Other Adventures: Beaches, Galleries, Museums, Shopping, Willemstad with its famous colorful buildings, local cafes, and Queen Emma Bridge.
Fringing reefs surround the island, which means that scores of dive sites are just steps from your resort or only a short boat ride away. Most of the dive sites are beautiful walls covered in lush soft coral, topped by gardens of hard coral in the shallows.
Curaçao’s trademark underwater highlights include mushroom-shaped coral heads, seahorses, cleaner shrimp, the famous “tugboat wreck,” and the wreck of the humongous Superior Producer.

If You’re Looking for Beautiful Reefs
Curaçao boasts a fascinating variety of reef formations. For example, Blue Room will have you swimming into an open-air grotto, Mushroom Forest features coral heads that resemble giant mushrooms, and the coral at Alice in Wonderland gets larger as you descend, giving you the impression you’re diving into the namesake rabbit hole.
There are fringing reefs, sandy plateaus that drop down to walls, places where you can scoop up golf balls, and channel dives with schools of pelagic fish. Curaçao is truly a scuba diving playground.
