Red Sea

Adventure Awaits

Egypt is a bucket list destination for adventure travelers.

Who can resist the allure of the ancient pyramids, the sun-blasted temples, the green oases springing along the Nile?

For scuba divers, the Red Sea has long been exalted for its beautiful coral reefs and staggering biodiversity; you wouldn’t expect a small body of water — surrounded by desert on all sides — to foster an ecosystem quite so vibrant.

Best Time to Travel: Year-Round | High Season: March – May.  Diving: Boat Diving.  Unique Marine Life: Oceanic Whitetips, Gray Reef Sharks, Blacktip Reef Sharks, Tiger Sharks, Whale Sharks, Silky Sharks, Dugongs, Zebra Sharks, Sea Turtles.  Level: All.  Sea Temps: 84°F in High Season.  Air Temps: Average 80 – 95°F in High Season.  Accommodations: Liveaboard.

Scuba Diving in the Red Sea

The Red Sea is famous for its far-reaching visibility and beautiful coral reefs. Sharks are almost guaranteed: there’s tiger sharks, gray reef sharks, blacktip reef sharks, and — most famously — the oceanic whitetip, which does require some amount of caution.

A liveaboard will get you to all the best dive sites. Typically, the liveaboards will schedule a northern route (which departs from Hurghada) or a southern route (which departs from Marsa Alam).

The northern end has a nice mix of coral reefs and wrecks (including the Thistlegorm wreck, probably the most famous wreck dive in the world). The southern end has bigger sharks and more pelagic animals.

You will enjoy the Red Sea…

If You’re Looking for Healthy Coral Reefs
With calm water conditions and dazzling visibility, it’s easy to enjoy the vibrant colors of the Red Sea coral reefs. These reefs are renowned by divers for their health, density, and biodiversity. Just a stunning underwater landscape.

If You Love Sharks
There’s tons of sharks in the Red Sea, including silky sharks, gray reef sharks, zebra sharks, tiger sharks, and threshers. Most divers want to see the oceanic whitetip, because they gather here in large numbers.

If You’re Checking-Off Your Bucket List
There’s 2 bucket list dive sites in the Red Sea. First, the Brothers Islands, which have a large number of sharks. Second, the wreck of the SS Thistlegorm, which has a massive cargo hold featuring trucks, bombers, and all sorts of WWII supplies. Add a third bucket list item if you count the Blue Hole (only accessible for tec divers).
