Evidence for the existence of sharks dates from the Ordovician period, over 450 million years ago, but it’s possible they’ve encountered their biggest obstacle yet… man. In this CNN report it’s estimated that 100 million, yes 100 million, sharks are killed each year, mostly for their fins. The world has embraced the severity of poaching and how inhumane it really is, no matter what animal. The ivory tusk of the elephant, the horn of a rhinoceros, the skin of leopards and tigers, are all well documented. Sharks, however, are coming more and more to the forefront of these cruel acts. It is so important to understand how necessary every animal is, to keep our ecosystem in order.
