Mario Cabading

Mario Cabading

Because he so often speaks to clients on the phone, he's practically the voice of STV. But because he has revamped its website, designs its trade show booths, visual ads, promotional items and flyers, company co-owner Mario Cabading is and always has been responsible for the company's look and feel, working behind the scenes - the place where he says he's most comfortable.

"I've always been the face of "STV Branding", so I wear many different hats." That includes managing the website, creating newsletters and e-blasts, creative advertising, developing marketing concepts in addition to selling exciting and exotic worldwide destinations.

"We've grown 300 percent from the marketing side in the last 6 years. We needed to constantly communicate with our database, develop new and creative marketing concepts and grow the business and we've done that."

Certified in the caribbean in 1994, Mario's been on a whirlwind the last few years seeking and visiting new resorts and old friends. "I like the challenge of seeking out new resorts and locations. A lot of "GEMS" are still out there to be found and that makes my job one of the best anyone could have. Working with new resorts to deliver divers to the region has always been the focus."

"The most exciting thing for me isn't just knowing people are packing their bags and getting ready for that fabulous dive trip, it's also rewarding when they come back and say STV was again "spot-on" about where we sent them."

Gene Dold

Gene Dold

“When I think about going on a dive trip, I get excited about what marine life I should expect to see. But I also like to learn about the location or geography of the destination and its people, culture and history. So for me, it’s fascinating to learn that the former British Colony of St. Lucia’s two main towns have French names, or why English is the primary language of Honduras’s Bay Islands, when the rest of the country speaks Spanish, or why North Sulawesi, in Indonesia, is primarily Christian in an otherwise Muslim country. My favorite destinations really are based upon my interests and mood at the time and what type of experience I am looking for and how long I have for travel. I thoroughly enjoy helping clients explore their world and meeting their needs.”

Gene was first introduced to the ocean in his youth, growing up on Catalina Island, where during the summers he regularly dived for coins. At 15, he got certified as a Junior Scuba Diver and later in his adulthood, he became a PADI Dive Master. He went on to become an Instructor and then went to work for STV.

Mike Arellano

Mike Arellano

“A dedicated employee for 12 years - does a little of everything at Scuba Travel Ventures. He sells travel packages, works some of the consumer shows, assists other STV travel specialists, and finds and develops new places to go diving.

But Mike has another great passion besides diving. While driving in California, Nevada or Arizona, in his silver Honda Ridgeline four-wheel drive pickup, if he spots any enticing dirt road off the blacktop, Mike takes it.

“I love off-roading,” says Mike, who grew up in Soledad, a small farming community in California’s Salinas Valley. “I’m a truck man. I don’t pull out a dune buggy, drive around in the sand and go home. I like to go hiking and climbing and explore nature. I learned to do that as a child, with my family.”

Family is of paramount importance to Mike. He has both a stepdaughter and biological daughter and five grandchildren, ranging from 8 months to 23 years old. At least three times a week, he says, he attends his grandkids’ soccer and baseball games.

Just as with his off-road adventures, Mike loves challenging his dive clients to go off the beaten path by booking trips to destinations rarely visited by Americans. “Going to places many people don’t know about, or places that aren’t really written about requires a real adventurous side,” Mike says. “I love exposing my clients to them.” Mike lists destinations in the South Pacific’s Melanesian corner – New Caledonia and Vanuatu – and the Tongan island of Eau as hot new diving frontiers. So if you ever call Mike about booking a dive vacation, expect this as his first question: “How adventurous do you want to be?”

Paul Cabading

Paul Cabading

Born and raised in San Diego, Paul is our newest member to STV. He handles the logistics of your trip by confirming and re-confirming every step. From flight itineraries to airport transfers, to hotel and diving reservations, he puts the puzzle pieces together to make sure your trip connects smoothly.

"I love working with our clients. I get to help them with their dream vacations. It doesn't get any better."

Paul played many different sports growing up, and through high school. He now plays in some adult leagues around San Diego, and has even coached football and baseball at the high school level. He attended Cal State University Long Beach.

As a certified diver, Paul is excited about all the different diving to explore around the world. "If I had to pick one, I'd go with Fiji," when asked what was on the top of his list, "but if you have a extra plane ticket laying around... I'll go there, too!" "

Liz Tuttle

Liz Tuttle

“I get excited when people ask me, ‘where should I go?’” Liz says. “I enjoy opening those doors for them. The world’s ocean is our oyster, and there are so many wonderful dive destinations that are its pearls.”

Liz loves adventure. Raised as a Navy brat, a love for travel and the ocean have always been in her soul. Her desire to see the world was born in the back of the family station wagon, seeing most of the U.S. on the road as the family moved from base to base. When she was older, she spread her wings and saw more of the world by traveling to parts of Western Europe, various areas in Mexico, and a wonderful Nile tour of Egypt. In addition to travel, her sense of adventure has led Liz to race cars on the local stock car track, ziplining, skydiving, and enjoying scenic rides in hot air balloons and helicopters.

She became a certified diver through a San Diego dive shop in 2007. After catching the scuba bug, she continued her underwater education until she began working as a divemaster in 2008. She’s logged over 500 dives locally in San Diego, San Clemente, Catalina and Laguna Beach, as well as in such exotic locations as Fiji, Palau, Yap, the Philippines, Chuuk (Truk), the Sea of Cortez and Bonaire. “Some of my favorite diving would include scoping out life along walls (especially nudis) and drift diving. In the Philippines I acquired a real love for critter diving. When diving, I love to pass the time shooting underwater videos.”

“I love working with STV because of the wonderful network of agents I have to work with. They are all so giving in their knowledge and love to share information,” Liz says. “If I’m not familiar with specific resorts, they always help me with the answers.”
